This day position performs laboratory tests of production samples for a dry mill ethanol plant to ensure the quality of the final product. Primary function is to ensure the quality of the final product is in compliance with state and federal environmental regulations and Company Standards.
•Performs daily laboratory tests of production samples to ensure the quality of the final product, and enters data into electronic data system. Certifies final products and ensures that all products meet trade standards before release.
•Follows quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of test results.
•Assists the Quality Manager with the inventory and ordering supplies to ensure efficient laboratory operations.
•Supports the Safety and Environmental Compliance Manager/Operations/Commodities teams as directed by supervisor.
•Ensures work area is kept clean and free from safety hazards which requires regular bending and occasional lifting.
•Completes tasks as assigned by the Quality Manager and Plant Manager.
•Participates in company Feed Safety Program/SHE programs and has the ability to lead in these areas.
•Accepts/carries out/completes other duties as assigned.
Continuous 24/7 plant operation. Laboratory work is conducted in a typical climate-controlled environment. Periodic visits to the industrial operations areas are necessary with exposure to a variety of temperatures and prevailing weather conditions; exposure to gases, vapors, dust and odors; and exposure to areas with wet floors and high volume of noise. Extensions of regular working hours are occasionally necessary to complete time sensitive projects or to respond to emergencies.
•High school diploma/GED
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Proficiency with spreadsheets and word-processing software
•Experience in laboratory operations or quality control in an industrial or municipal facility or agribusiness plant. (Relevant experience may include testing of soil or water samples)
•Some knowledge of laboratory processes, procedures or equipment
•Associates of Science Degree (Chemistry/Microbiology/Biochemistry/Biology) or relevant military experience.
•Experience within an ethanol plant
•Knowledge of Process Safety Management
•Knowledge of manufacturing regulatory and safety requirements (e.g. OSHA, EPA, FDA or IDNR)
